#ReclaimOurSchools Campaign Launch

Event Date:
Thu, 10/06/2016 - 08:00

Every year, CUNY requests State and City money to address health and safety needs and keep our campuses in good repair and up to code. And every year, Albany and City Hall respond with budgets that don’t prioritize our working and learning conditions. Yes, there’s always some money for critical maintenance and capital improvements in the final budget, and our hardworking staff do the best they can under the circumstances, but it’s never enough. You know. Just look around.

That’s why PSC chapters at Bronx Community College, Brooklyn College, Hostos Community College and Lehman College are taking part in the national #ReclaimOurSchools day of action on October 6th. Organized by educators, students and parents in 200+ cities, this social media campaign will publicize desperately needed repairs and upgrades. Please snap a few quick cell-phone photos of leaky ceilings, damaged walls, busted equipment—anything that needs fixing—and share them starting Oct. 6th on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #ReclaimOurSchools

Campus Equity Week Begins

Event Date:
Mon, 10/26/2015 - 09:00 to Fri, 10/30/2015 - 17:00

Campus Equity Week (CEW) is a week of education and activism that draws attention to the working conditions of faculty working on temporary low paid contracts. Contingent faculty work in insecure part and full time non tenure track positions subject to exploitative employment. Campus Equity Week was originally devised in 2001 in order to highlight the appalling working conditions of contingent faculty. A central principal of Campus Equity Week is that quality education depends practically and ethically on professional and just conditions for all faculty.

News Conference to Urge Gov Cuomo to Sign Bill to Improve CUNY Funding

Event Date:
Wed, 07/22/2015 - 13:00

CUNY students and faculty, together with elected officials, will hold a news conference urging the governor to sign a bill to protect the quality of education at CUNY and SUNY. The bill, S281a/A5370a, passed the Legislature with near unanimous support. It clarifies articles of law known as “maintenance of effort” provisions, which aim to stabilize state funding for the two public university systems. Basic university operating costs were left out when the maintenance of effort provisions were passed in 2011.

#TenantTakeOver Lobby Day

Event Date:
Tue, 06/09/2015 - 07:00 to 19:00

Help Strengthen NYC’s Rent Laws

Two decades of weak rent laws have led to the loss of 250,000 rent-regulated apartments in NYC, and New Yorkers are facing an affordable housing crisis that is pushing too many of us out of our neighborhoods. CUNY faculty and staff who have gone five years without at a contractual raise are struggling to stay in their homes. Labor unions, community organizations, and NYC Democrats in the Legislature are pushing to extend and strengthen New York’s rent laws still covering more than one million homes before they expire on June 15. Together, we’re taking the fight to Albany for the #TenantTakeOver lobby day on Tuesday, June 9. PSC members will be there; to get a seat on the bus, fill out this web form. Saving these homes and keeping them affordable is a real way to help mitigate New York’s rising cost of living and protect the value of CUNY salaries. It’s time for our legislators to stand with tenants, not greedy landlords. Take the bus to Albany, and send our politicians a strong message. Click here to RSVP for a bus.

Review Your Personnel File Week

Event Date:
Mon, 04/20/2015 (All day) to Fri, 04/24/2015 (All day)

Time to Review Your Personnel File

Review Your Personnel File Week: April 20-24
Read about it in Clarion.

Your personal personnel file is the representation of your work and professional history at CUNY, a record of all your contributions to your profession. Decisions about reappointment, promotion, certification and tenure are made, in part, based on the contents of this file. You have an interest in making sure it’s accurate and up-to-date. Your PSC chapter chair, chapter grievance counselor or the union’s Contract Enforcement office can help if you have any questions or concerns arising from the examination of your file. The contract gives you the right to review and initial your personal personnel file each year. Now is an excellent time to begin the practice!

The union is encouraging all full- and part-time instructional staff, HEOs, and CLTs to review their personal personnel file during the week of April 20-24.
